DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES - National Summit on Women's Safety

The two-day virtual Summit, hosted by the Department of Social Services, included keynote addresses from the Prime Minister of Australia, the Minister for Women, and the Minister for Women’s Safety.

The National Summit on Women’s Safety was originally scheduled to be a live event hosted in the Great Hall at Parliament House in Canberra. The objective of the event was to continue important work developing the next National Plan to end violence against women and children. The updated National Plan will build on the existing National Plan in a way that addresses evolving issues and commits to ending violence against women and children. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and State border closures and Local Government lockdowns, EP Agency was required to pivot the Summit to deliver a virtual event.

EP Agency worked closely with the Department to transition the Summit planning and logistics to, firstly, postpone the occasion, and then secondly, to seamlessly transition it to a virtual delivery. This involved reorganising running schedules, communications plans, travel, accommodation bookings, and developing a robust digital delivery platform. The event website designed and developed by EP Agency served as the virtual hub for all the Summit content to be viewed and published.

The Summit included keynote addresses, public presentations, panel discussions and closed roundtables focused on issues affecting women’s safety.

As a result of the Summit’s virtual pivot the audience reach increased attendees were able to continue to engage with the website platform and content after the event concluded.

The Summit was facilitated by Sky News Australia’s Laura Jayes, Political Reporter and Anchor of AM Agenda. She expertly facilitated the panels discussions, recorded interview content, and kept viewers informed and engaged throughout the live broadcast.
